Pros and Cons of Cable TV and Satellite

By Brian Engle

Cable or satellite TV is a great way to get high definition channels. They both have access to plenty of HD stations, but depending on your personal wants, one may be better than the other.

In the upcoming year, cable and satellite subscriptions will surge because of the digital transition. For people with regular television, a digital converter box is needed. An alternative to buying a box is to upgrade to cable or satellite TV, which gives more channels as well as better picture.

There are tons of positive aspects for satellite television. The quality of picture is amazing and there is a seemingly limitless number of channels. Satellite is also known for having interesting capabilities, such as picture-in-picture.

Although there are many positive features of satellite, there are negatives as well. Satellite often does not come with local channels, or they cost more to get. Also, the cost of implementing a satellite system can be a lot of money.

Cable TV is almost always cheaper than satellite because of the aforementioned equipment. Installation is also faster because cable is so easy to set up. Cable providers usually offer other services as well, such as phone and Internet, and by packing these options with television, you can enjoy overall lower costs.

Cable has an incredibly interesting feature called "On Demand". No matter what time it is, you can use On Demand to find shows and films and watch them immediately. Some of the options cost money, but most of them are free.

An accessory that both cable and satellite offer is the ability to digitally record programs. If you like to watch a certain show but cannot make it for whatever reason, you can digitally record it and watch it later.

If you are having trouble deciding, there may be a chance you don't have to. One's location is a great determinant about whether satellite or cable is a better fit. In some cases, your location might completely remove an option from the table, making the choice exceptionally easy to make.
